DESCRIPTION
a multi purpose, multi user environment
dWELL 122 is a multi purpose, multi user, house that allows for privacy and reclusion, but also encourages community and shared experiences.
The house is made of 4 main volumes. A communal living space, two individual studios and a shared workshop/garage space.
The communal living space, or family area, is defined by an airy and light polycarbonate volume that floats over the landscape providing a continuous double space. Three separate areas are differentiated through the terracing of the space, all of them with views towards the ocean and the upper one also with southern views towards the lake.
In contrast, the individual studios are embedded into the topography and present a much more close appearance with selected “punched” windows framing the view. Small courtyards perforate these volumes adding a secluded outdoor private area and additional light.
The two lower individual studios, one on each side of the communal living space are connected through the kitchen, which sits in the middle. All three are joined by an aluminium foam ‘retaining wall’ that shapes the topography and formalises these spaces
The workshop volume is placed on the higher part of the site near the road. A solid volume with minimal openings, it presents a quiet aspect to the street. This element runs underneath the southern end of the communal living spaces and hosts the services area and the entry to the house.
